Malaga in a Weekend

First day in Malaga:

The route to visit Malaga in two days begins with breakfast at Casa Aranda, a traditional churrería of Malaga, dating from 1932, this is the Malaga churrería par excellence, with its typical elongated churros.

The first visit of the day will be to the Cathedral, which opens at 10:00 am and is located in the Plaza del Obispo, and stands out for its magnificent baroque facade and an interior in which there are two jewels: the High Altar and the Choir Chairs.

The route continues entering the Alcazaba of Malaga and the Roman Theater to see the incredible Granada Quarters and the whole complex of palaces, gardens and courtyards in Arabic style. Once you leave the Alcazaba, in the same Alcazabilla Street, we suggest you to recover energy in El Pimpi, one of the most emblematic restaurants of our city, founded in 1971. El Pimpi is one of the most traditional wineries in Malaga, where you can enjoy the local cuisine and local wines.

After lunch we recommend a stop in Calle Cister in the traditional Malaga ice cream parlor called Casa Mira, where you can not leave without trying the nougat ice cream bonbon, or the famous “black and white” (coffee granita with nougat ice cream or ice cream that you like).

We will continue our route passing by San Agustin street, where you will find the Picasso Museum, the most important museum in Malaga and with some of the most valuable works of the artist from Malaga.
Afterwards, we recommend you to relax in one of our ELE APARTMENTS apartments, to continue with the route a little later. At sunset, we suggest you to go up by bus or walking to the Mirador de Gibralfaro or to the terrace of the Hotel Malaga Palacio to enjoy fantastic views of Malaga.

To end the first day of this route, we encourage you to take a nice walk through the Palmeral de las Sorpresas to finish with dinner at La Pérgola del Mediterráneo, one of the restaurants recently opened by the Tercer Acto Group, promoted by Antonio Banderas and that have opted for a modern gastronomy.

Second day in Malaga:

The second day begins with breakfast at Café Madrid. Another of the oldest and most typical places in the city, here you can enjoy the “pitufos”, typical Malaga bread, stuffed with Serrano ham, olive oil and tomato, “mixto” (cooked ham and turkey), potato omelette … and a long etcetera, or take the typical “churros madrileños”, thinner than the ones we tried on the first day of our route.

The second day I would take advantage of the morning to enjoy the beach. Malaga is bathed by the sea all along its coast, if you do not want to take the bus you can enjoy the Malagueta beach, but we recommend you to take the bus (line 11, 3, 8) and go to the neighborhood of El Palo / Pedregalejo. It is the traditional fishing district of Malaga, where you can enjoy a morning at the beach and taste the best “espetos de sardinas” and “pescaito frito” (fried fish) in the typical beach bars in front of the beach. Our recommendation would be, El merlo, Miguelito el Cariñoso, Las Acacias …. among many others, which are a safe bet.

Afterwards, I would return to the apartment to rest or enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the Hammam, an Arab bath located in Plaza de los Mártires, to continue our route later through Calle Larios, Alameda and the Soho area, one of the areas of Malaga that has been most updated in recent years and that offers a wide variety of restaurants.

Where we recommend you to dine at Los Ibéricos, La barra Doña Inés, La Deriva … among others. We would end up having a drink at Antojo, where they offer a great variety of shows every night, La Terraza de Valeria, or La Terraza de Only You.
